Wow, it’s been a while. I haven’t posted anything for a long time. I’m really sorry everyone. I’ve been very busy with school and what not and I completely forgot about my duties as a blogger, but I’m on break now so hopefully I’ll be able to talk about video games more often. So let’s talk about something recent shall we. Square Enix just released Drakengard 3 which is supposidly a prequel to the entire Drakengard series. Now I am very unfamiliar with the series so I’ll talk about the game as if it wasn’t a part of the series. This game is….really weird. In the game you play as an Intoner, a holy songtress that brought peace amoung a chaotic world, named Zero. She wants to kill all five of her sisters in order to gain control of the planet. Now according to my research they say she is the supposed anti-hero, but when you play the game you feel like you’re playing as the antagonist. All of the Intoners are all some definition of crazy. Five is an uber-slut, Four has an inferoirity complex, Three is obessive over little things, Two is basically a ditz, and One is Ms. I-Am-Better-Than-Everyone-So-Obviously-You-Can’t-Defy-Me bitch. Zero herself is like Mitsuru (who she is voiced by) on a murder spree…. I fear for my life. You also meet each Intoner’s disciple, but they’re not really important for this reveiw. The reason this game is really weird is due to the atmosphere. It seems to conflict in my opinion. The scenary gives off this dark and serious moment like in a time of war, but the dialouge… Oh god the dialouge is freaking HILIARIOUS!! There are a lot of sex jokes, kill jokes, personality conflicts, etc. The story is humorous. Even the enemies, when they speak before you kill them, they all say things that show how afraid they are, how much they want to have sex with their Intoner, they even have arguments amongst themselves if they should run away or fight. There’s even a cutscene that is censored in the most hiliarious way I can think off, but they leave just enough to let your imagination fill in the rest. Okay, let’s get down to the gameplay. It’s basically you’re regualr hack-and-slash game with a few RPG elemnts in it. You gain levels at the end of each mission and before each mission starts you can buy items, upgrade your weapons, or buy new weapons. The system works for the type of game it is. It honestly feels like Dynasty Warirors with a little bit of Kingdom Hearts. Graphically, however, this game fails. It honestly looks like a PS2 game that got an HD upgrade and was ported onto the PS3. It’s not that impressive at all. The designs are good, but the resoulution is not great. However, that shouldn’t determine if it’s a bad game or not. Overall, I think it’s a pretty good game. I love the dialogue that happens during battles. The story is weird, but enjoyable. The gameplay is pretty good. It isn’t a perfect game, but it is a good one. I reccomend this game to those who like Square Enix games besides Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy, like hack-and-slash games, or just want a good laugh here and there while playing a game. Well that’s all I have to say on the matter. Once again, I’m really sorry for the lack of post and I hope to make up for it. Anyway those are my thoughts, Voice of a Gamer signing out.
